Art and Design
Through art & design we aim to develop each child’s creative potential. Children will gain experience of working with a wide range of materials and will create a variety of 2D and 3D work, including painting, printing, collage and modelling. Close observational work is encouraged and care and attention to detail is gradually developed. Children will learn about the arts and crafts of other cultures and from different periods in history, as well as studying the work of famous artists, architects and designers.
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
