When they leave Claygate at the end of Year 6, children move on to a number of different secondary schools, in both the state and independent sectors. Around 65% of children have historically transferred to Esher High and Hinchley Wood, in roughly equal numbers, with the remainder moving on to independent schools and other state schools in Surrey and Kingston. In the last three years, in addition to Hinchley Wood and Esher High, Year 6 pupils have transferred to Hampton, Reed's, Kingston Grammar, Tiffin Boys and Tiffin Girls, Royal Grammar (Guildford), Tolworth Girls, Claremont, Surbiton High, and many others.
From 2015, changes to the admissions criteria of Hinchley Wood and Esher mean that Claygate is in the catchment area for both schools. In addition, Claygate is also a feeder school for Hinchley Wood, along with three other local KS2 schools (Thames Ditton Juniors, Hinchley Wood Primary and Long Ditton St.Mary's Junior). This does not guarantee a place at Hinchley Wood but means that children who attend a feeder school and who live in the catchment area will have a higher priority. In 2016 not all children in the four feeder schools were offered places at Hinchley Wood, but a higher proportion gained admission to their first choice of school in 2017.
Parents who have applied for a place in the maintained sector will be notified on 1st March 2017 of the school their child has been offered. Please see below for more information on the process of appying for a secondary school for your child for 2017, and what to do after your child has been offered a place (this information covers waiting lists, appeals etc.)
Information on the 2018 admissions round will be added to this page in September 2017.
