The School Environment

Claygate Primary School and Acorns Nursery are fortunate to be set on a beautiful, expansive green site, providing abundant opportunities for exploration, learning, and personal growth. Our thoughtfully designed grounds inspire creativity, nurture a love of nature, and support emotional well-being.

One of the standout features of our site is the indoor swimming pool, offering all children, including nursery, the opportunity to swim all year round, regardless of the weather.

We also have a Calm Zone, a peaceful outdoor space where children can retreat for quiet reflection and relaxation. Within the Calm Zone, our Calm Cabin provides an additional area for unwinding, giving children a space to manage their emotions and find tranquillity in the midst of a busy day.

In the Calm Zone, children can also explore our allotments, where they engage in hands-on gardening, learning about sustainability while growing their own plants and vegetables. Thanks to our partnership with the Claygate Gardening Society, children benefit from expert advice and guidance. Adjacent to the allotments, our pets offer valuable lessons in responsibility, empathy, and animal care.

Our Forest School style programme further enriches children's connection to nature. Through outdoor activities such as building dens, exploring wildlife, and developing problem-solving skills, children build confidence, resilience, and teamwork, all while enjoying the natural environment. Mini-Woodies offers a stimulating outdoor space designed to encourage exploration, imagination, and adventure. It allows our younger children to take safe risks, challenge themselves, and develop a deeper understanding of their surroundings. Additionally, our Woodland Learning Zone, with its tranquil pond and wildlife zone, invites children to observe local flora and fauna, deepening their connection to nature.

These unique spaces, combined with our commitment to outdoor learning, nurture children's curiosity, resilience, and emotional well-being. Together, they offer a well-rounded education that extends beyond academics, fostering creativity, emotional health, and a lasting connection to the world around them.
